FAQs

*What does ABLE stand for?
-ABLE stands for Anti Bullying Lifelines and Education

*I have heard that bullying isn't that big of a problem, how many people are
  actually impacted?
-Statistics from a variety of sources state that 1 out of 4 students are bullied.

*What different types of bullying are there?
-There are 4 major categories Physical, Verbal, Cyber and Social.  Physical
and Verbal are considered direct forms of bullying and they are most
commonly recognized.  Cyber and Social bullying are indirect forms and
are harder to pinpoint.  Teachers and parents may not even be aware that
these forms of bullying are happening.

*What does a bully look like?
- We all know about the stereotypes, the big scary guy, the perfect mean
girl, but in truth a bully can look like anyone.

* I'm not a bully so it really isn't my problem, right?
- If you are a passive bystander to bullying, then you are part of the issue.
By not taking a stand you are sending a message to the bully that their
behavior is acceptable.    Statistics show that 80% of those who witness
bullying do nothing.  Some are afraid, some are apathetic but all are
are adding to the bully's sense of power and the victim's sense of
  humiliation and isolation.

*What should I do if I am a victim?
- If you are in physical danger you must seek adult help.  If you are
considering harming yourself or others you must seek immediate help.
If possible, remove yourself from situations that provide the bully
with opportunities to target you.  Seek out people and activities that make
you feel safe and valuable.  Remember that you are a person of worth
and in time life will get better.

*How can I help change the culture at my school?
- First and formost be an example.  Always treat others the way that you
wish to be treated.  Talk to your administrators or counselors about
having a school assembly to address bullying.  Ask that your school's
bullying policy be on display in the hallway, the locker room, gymnasium
and athletic fields.  Hold a pledge drive using the ABLE pledge or develop
your own.   Most of all surround yourself with people who support
your efforts and believe that bullying is not "cool" or acceptable"

*How do I arrange an ABLE presentation at my school?
